Evolving Utilities, From Promises to Progress at UW Forum’24

This week marked an extraordinary moment for the Vyntelligence team. The first snowfall of the season transformed the morning as we made our way to the Utility Week Forum held in London. The event brought together the most influential people in the utilities sector to discuss the pressing challenges and opportunities in the industry.

This year’s forum was particularly special as it tackled some of the most crucial questions shaping our industry today. It wasn’t just about sharing ideas but about turning promises into tangible progress. As thought leaders gathered under one roof, we joined them to demystify the UK’s trajectory to achieving its 2030 targets, understand the pathway to net zero, and explore how digital technologies can transform the way we tackle the challenges ahead.

The Future of Utilities

The forum kicked off with a deep dive into the UK’s ambitions for 2030, focusing on accelerating the transition to clean power and collaboration as the keystone of progress — uniting policymakers, businesses, and communities.

Did you know? Poor management of data can often be attributed to manual hand-offs and lack of integration. About 30% of initial data is lost at closeout, 52% rework globally due to poor data and 13% of hours are spent looking for project information!

Speakers such as – Jon Butterworth, CEO at National Gas, Alastair Cochran CFO at Thames Water, Alison Bevan from Anglian Water, Alli Suleman, Director of Finance from UKPN – shared their insights and, when asked by the panel what was the biggest potential blocker to utilities meeting their delivery goals, skills shortage received the highest number of votes.

Another central question throughout the event was the role of digital technology in enhancing efficiency during record-high investment in utilities infrastructure. So, what’s stopping people from embracing AI and new technology in the utilities sector?

A New Era with Vyn

Overcoming these challenges demands addressing difficult questions.

At UW Forum, we were proud to be at the forefront of meeting these challenges and answering the questions. Vyn’s AI-powered solution is already proving to be a game-changer by empowering companies to enable their people to become smarter and faster in achieving their goals.

Beyond the panels and presentations, the forum was a space to connect with like-minded innovators and leaders. We had the privilege of meeting and exchanging ideas with remarkable individuals from UK Power Networks, Anglian Water, National Grid, SSE, Cadent and more. These connections have already sparked inspiration as we shared the power of Vyn® for customer self-surveys, faster new connections and faster resolutions for customer and field operations across the utilities sector.

Plus, Christmas came early for all our LEGO prize draw winners, and even those who didn’t win walked away with a drive to become the next game changer in their journeys.

We enjoyed building on these conversations, turning insights into action, and coming together to celebrate progress and chart new paths forward in the industry. Here’s to a future of collaboration, innovation, and sustainable growth, together
