Accelerating the Culture of Safety and Proactive Response with Vyn SmartVideoNotes

Ashish Silodia, COO at Vyntelligence, shared his insights into how combining human intelligence and video AI can help accelerate the culture of safety and proactive response.

In these unprecedented times, we are learning to adapt to a new lifestyle. With the risks of COVID-19, it is more important than ever to build and sustain a culture of safety and proactive response. It is for the frontline staff that we must find new ways to reduce in-person contact. This new normal sees remote working no longer as a luxury but a chance to increase operational efficiency through more focused working.

Methods to tackle this exact challenge were discussed at the Future of Utilities online event series.

As a thought leader on disruptive technology, Vyntelligence was a proud sponsor of Session 2 on ‘Augmenting the Culture of Proactive Response’.

Ashish proposed a 3 stage framework:

  1. Change organisation culture
  2. Improve the process and technology
  3. Close the loop

The Goal is to change organisational culture

“We must start building a culture of health & safety, cultivating a no-blame environment, within which safety is not a compliance requirement but second nature- like putting on your seat belt when you get into a car” says Ashish.

This can be achieved by one, having good role models that other staff can follow and two, rewarding the people that do the right thing. By encouraging the right actions and feedback for staff to witness the results of the actions, company culture can start incorporating safety and proactive response.

The Problem is the cumbersome process required in building this culture

Ensuring safety and proactive response can be a lengthy process requiring a lot of effort. There is often much paperwork to be completed and assessments to be conducted. These processes create much friction which delays response times and hinders staff from being proactive.

While digital alternatives to paperwork like Google forms exist, they still rely on lengthy questioning. Even when responses are proactive, a lack of feedback can further deter staff from being efficient in the future.

Is there a Solution?

First, to keep staff proactive, we need to close the loop by allowing them to witness the results of their efforts. Showing them the outcome of their input is paramount in keeping effort consistent.

The new culture is now reliant on technology more than ever to automate processes. Though the subtleties of the human touch are often lost with technology, we shouldn’t abandon it entirely.

Ashish captured this perfectly with his example that “an iPhone allows a 4 year old to harness its computing power even before they learn their multiplication”. In fact, it is so easy to use that it can teach a 4 year old multiplication.

It is this simplicity and seamless process that is key to augmenting the culture and achieving operational excellence.

{tweetme}Douglas Whitfield, Ops Director from South East Water, also discussed Vyn’s AI capabilities being combined with human intelligence to double-check the model outcomes.{/tweetme}

The Vyntelligence technology is simple, scalable and seamlessly integrated into daily workflows and enterprise solutions. Ashish gave the brilliant analogy that ‘instead of having the 2 eyes of one inspector searching for potential hazards and documenting incidents, we can have the 60 eyes of your whole team, from the ease of their own smartphones, documenting hazards and incidents’. It’s time to embrace the new culture, and Vyn can help.

It is as simple as using Vyn’s storyboarding technique and allowing staff to use their own smartphone’s multimedia capabilities to take a video and talk about the issue. The AI algorithms then collate the data and predict future incidents, protecting frontline staff by saving on call-outs.

The accessibility of Vyn’s technology meets Ashish’s 3-part framework by improving organisation culture, while its easy-to-use nature makes the process frictionless and regular data analysis helps close the loop:

Therefore, Ashish believes that to encourage a culture of proactive response, Vyn SmartVideoNotes leverages the powerful combination of human and artificial intelligence, creating a seamless experience.

Ashish joined Vyn in December last year after being the COO at Salesforce UK. You can learn more about him through this Business Wire article.
